EV charging cost calculator
Estimate what a weekday commute costs to charge at home. Defaults match the worked example in How much does it cost to charge an electric car?
How we calculate
- Distance — round trip × 21 workdays (default), × 30.4 every day, or × (days/week × 4.345) for a custom schedule.
- Efficiency — kWh per 100 km or per 100 mi. Example cars use EPA figures from fueleconomy.gov (checked Oct 27, 2026).
- Rate — ¢/kWh from a sourced preset or your bill. Canada presets use CAD; the US average uses USD.
- Monthly cost = monthly distance × (efficiency ÷ 100) × (rate ÷ 100). Yearly = monthly × 12.
Charging-loss adjustment is not included yet — we need a sourced loss figure before shipping that toggle.
